About erroneo.us

A reference site about getting things wrong, built to be unusually careful about getting things right.

What we publish#

erroneo.us is a free reference to common errors, mistakes and misconceptions. It covers four areas:

  • Language: confused words, grammar, spelling, pronunciation and idioms.
  • Developers: HTTP status codes, JavaScript and Python errors, and famous software failures.
  • Thinking: cognitive biases and logical fallacies.
  • Myths: science, history, nutrition and personal-finance misconceptions.

The format is deliberately consistent. Each page puts the wrong version beside the right one, explains why the error happens, and links the evidence. We would rather publish 25 pages we can stand behind than 2,500 thin ones.

Who we are#

erroneo.us is part of the allthingsN network, a small independent studio that publishes apps, free tools and practical guides. Sister projects include PantryRx, a meal-planning app and recipe site, and the allthingsN typing trainer. We note those links where they are genuinely useful to a reader; nobody pays to appear on this site.

How pages are researched#

Every factual claim links to a source, and the full list is at the bottom of each page. We prefer primary and official sources: standards documents, official language documentation, investigation boards, government agencies, dictionaries and peer-reviewed research. The sources & methodology page lists every source we cite and the rules we follow.

Corrections policy#

On a site called erroneo.us, an error is an occupational hazard and an embarrassment. Our rules:

  • If a claim is wrong, we fix it and update the page’s “Updated” date.
  • If a source has moved or changed, we replace it with the current version or remove the claim.
  • If experts disagree, we describe the disagreement instead of picking a side silently.
  • We never invent numbers, quotes or studies, and we don’t cite sources we haven’t read.

Found something? Tell the allthingsN team through the contact options on allthingsn.com/about, and include the page URL and the source that shows the correction.

What we don’t do#

We don’t give medical, legal or financial advice. Health and money pages summarize public guidance and research for general readers; your situation may differ. We also don’t run pop-ups or paywalls, and pages work without JavaScript.
